Essential safety tips for riding scooters and bikes in Tulum. Read before you ride!
Traffic Rules
Tulum follows standard Mexican traffic laws. Key rules:
- 🚦 Drive on the right side of the road
- ⛑️ Helmets are mandatory for scooters (we provide 2)
- 🛣️ ATVs and bicycles are NOT allowed on the highway
- 🚫 No driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- 📱 No phone use while driving
- 💡 Use headlights at night
Road Conditions
Tulum roads can be different from what you’re used to:
- 🕳️ Watch for potholes — especially on side streets
- 🌧️ Roads get slippery when wet — slow down in rain
- 🚧 Speed bumps (topes) are everywhere — slow down!
- 🐕 Watch for dogs, cyclists, and pedestrians on the road
- 🌙 Some streets have poor lighting at night — ride carefully
Scooter-Specific Tips
First time on a scooter? No worries:
- 🔑 We’ll show you how to operate it at pickup
- 🐢 Start slow — practice in a quiet area first
- ⛽ Nearest gas station: Google Maps
- 🔒 Always lock your scooter — never lock to trees
- 📸 We take a condition video at pickup — this protects both of us
